STOURBRIDGE GLASSBOYS V BILBROOK – AWAY
30.10.11
The extra hour in bed worked wonders for the boys this week as they put in a magnificent performance against a very good Bilbrook side. After a few weeks where the team work and passing had not been to their usual high standard this week the boys were outstanding from the whistle. To the boys credit they also had to contend with the fact there were only the 5 Glassboys on show as holidays prevented the full squad from making the long trip to Bilbrook.
The Bilbrook Arena is always a great place to visit, as soon as the car door is opened the waft of bacon sarnies hits you and what a smell that is first thing in the morning. Ignoring the streaky, all the boys were quick to get the boots and tracksuit tops on and focus on the game, going through the warm up with a smile and sense of purpose.
H started in goal, as always making fine saves, great handling and a great kick. In front of him Jacob did not let a thing passed him all day and made some wonderful covering sliding tackles when required. A thunderbolt shot in the second half from outside the box smashed into the crossbar and bounced straight downwards. Unfortunately the League stopped using Russian linesmen after 1966 so no goal was awarded. With the Wolverhampton branch of the Clapp family watching, Tom combined his usual destructive defensive duties with a penchant for attack and became the bull-dozer in the box at corners, scoring twice. Liam was given the midfield role and used his pace and strength to constantly pressure the opposition. He never gave Bilbrook time to settle and chased everything and got himself a well deserved goal in the second half. Playing as the sole striker, Tyler was back to his best and put in a great performance. Always prepared to shoot he bagged himself an excellent hat trick, his two strikes in the first half gave the keeper no chance as the rifled into the roof of the net.
A sigh of relief for Manager Neil that the month ended on a high, the boys must now take this attitude into November, if they do then the crowds will be treated to some more great football.
This coming Sunday the opposition is Kingsley East, we return to Swinford Common for a home game with a time to be confirmed.
